In a boring machine, ram refers to a rectangular structure with a spindle head that extends along the Z-axis direction. Ram is referred to as the Z-axis, W-axis, or W2 axis based on its relationship to other Z axes. According to different machine tool brands, the W2 axis is also called as the V-axis.
